WINSTON IAN STEWART
Sundiata is a Bajan artist residing in the island of Trinidad and Tobago. His body of work is an amalgamation of images, colours and creative compositions of the human form.
His main source of inspiration is nature, light and the human form. He uses a variety of media including oil, watercolour, pencil, charcoal and wood. His works are very colourful, expressive and semi-abstract.
Sundiata has exhibited throughout the Caribbean, North and South America and Europe. His work is to be found in many private, corporate and public collections. He has received numerous awards for painting, drawing and sculpture. His other interests include road running, swimming and exploring the rain forest.
Composition, colour and space are very important. Subject matter is varied and limitless; the human form, however, dominates.
The use of Colour and understanding of “light” are binding forces in my work. Working with hard woods to produce sculptural forms is a current involvement.
“Philosophically, I, like most alert human beings, rely on Nature to be the grounding, the source of most ideas. Interacting with human beings and objects in this matrix, generates a more dynamic reason to create and interpret ART.”
