Carol Charles

Carol Charles, known as Ms. Charles to many, was born and raised in Morvant during the 1950’s. Ms. Charles is both a retired teacher, business woman and an artist specialising in acrylic landscape paintings. In 2003, she held her first exhibition of 25 pieces of acrylic paintings depicting various landscapes of both Trinidad and Tobago.

Ms. Charles established Modern Art Association in 1985, which allowed her to extend her
expertise to students from all over the country who sought her guidance. Through this
institution, she was able to motivate many art students who are now graphic artists, fine
artists and designers. The students of this establishment accompanied Ms Charles during her
travels across the country. During these trips, Ms Charles found inspiration for the pieces
which she exhibited in 2003.

Hundreds of past students from Providence Girls’ Secondary School, St. Theresa’s Intermediate School and Belmont Boys’ Secondary School (now St. Francis College) will remember the era of the teacher whose work, creativity and ambition in the area inspired and motivated many to move into the area of Art and Design.

At the time of retirement, the Art Faculty of Belmont Boys’ Secondary was known as one of the best in the East-West Corridor of Trinidad and Tobago. In 2011, she retired after having taught Art for forty (40) years.

She is now focusing on being an Artist although she often finds herself teaching.
